Novice Driver – Charged With Impaired Operation

Community Patrol Officers attended and located the vehicles and drivers involved. Upon speaking to one of the drivers he showed signs of impairment and was arrested. The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Services where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were over twice the legal limit. The driver, a 47 year old Brantford male, is charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 under the Criminal Code. The driver was also charged with Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content Above Zero and Drive Motor Vehicle in Contravention of Conditions under the Highway Traffic Act. The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The graduated licensing system of Ontario disallows new drivers from consuming any alcohol before driving.
