#ChickPicotheDay (day 2,716)

I was a tad nervous out hiking alone on the remote trail northwest of our cottage. After about a half hour of trudging through the mushy mud and snow I became a bit less anxious. The scenery was breathtaking after all. I kept hearing weird bird songs as I walked through a forest of pine trees. I stopped and listened to the songs of an elusive bird. Finally I spotted the ENORMOUS ;) 11cm long Ruby-crowned Kinglet that can weigh upwards of 10g (yes about the weight of a smartie). Very crappy awkward photo but it’s a first timer for me and they hide way up in the top of the trees.

I can’t believe this bird can lay up to 12 eggs (most likely the size of an M&M peanut). Subscribe to my website:  http://www.heathercardle.com
