August 9 UPDATE of Armed Take-down on Colborne Street East | Four suspects arrested by Brantford Police
The following Brantford ‘Police Briefing’, offered today August 9 2019, is a description of the events that led up to the armed take-down described yesterday on Colborne Street at Sheffield Street
On Thursday August 8, 2019 just after 2:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service were in the area of North Park Street and Charing Cross Street when information was received about a suspicious male and female.
Information had been received that the female may be in possession of a firearm.
Community Patrol Officers observed the male leaving the area while the female entered a business on Charing Cross Street. Officers made contact with the female and investigation revealed that she had placed a firearm into a garbage container inside the business.
Officers recovered a loaded firearm from a garbage container. Officers arrested the female without incident.
Around 5:00pm Thursday, August 8, 2019, Brantford Police Services task force officers, uniformed and undercover, executed an armed take-down of four subjects in a black Nissan Versa at the corner of Colborne Street East and Sheffield Avenues (two blocks east of Gretzky Parkway). The male suspect from the Charing Cross Street incident was one of the four individuals taken into custody at that location. Three men and a woman were taken back to the station during this investigation. Only the male suspect sought after was charged and the other three individuals, two men and a woman were released without any charges.
As a result of the investigation a 41 year old Female and a 42 year old male from Brantford have been charged with Careless Storage of Firearm, Possession of Weapons Dangerous, Carry Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Possession Weapon Obtained by Crime, Careless Storage x2 (Ammunition and Firearm) and Possession While Prohibited x2 (Ammunition and Firearm).
Traffic continued through the intersection on Colborne while some bypassed on Forest Road.
