Impaired Driver – Novice Driver

On Tuesday June 12, 2018 just after 3:00 a.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a motor vehicle traveling on Wayne Gretzky Parkway without its lights on. Officers performed a traffic stop and spoke to the male driver. Upon speaking to the driver, Officers observed signs of impairment and a roadside screening device was administered at the scene. The driver failed the roadside and was arrested. The driver was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide two samples of his breath as required by law. The accused readings were over the legal limit. Investigation revealed that the accused was a novice driver and that the vehicle he was driving was taken without the consent of the owner. A 29 year old Brantford male is charged with Operate Motor Vehicle – Over 80 and Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent under the Criminal Code. He is also charged with G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver, G1 licence holder drive at unlawful hour and Drive without proper headlights/rear lights under the Highway Traffic Act. The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days.
