Swimming in Disappointment
Swimmers looking forward to using the newly renovated pool at the Woodman Community Centre were disappointed to learn that the pool will not be opening this season as anticipated.
Due to unexpected delays in construction, the 25-meter pool with accessible ramp and walk in entry was not completed in time to open this month.
When the pool does open, swimmers and loungers will enjoy the large concrete deck, awnings, storage, games tables and fencing. There are discussions about extending the swimming season by heating the pool so that it can be enjoyed in the spring and into the fall when most outdoor pools close.
The city has announced that there will be a shuttle bus available from Woodman to Earl Haig, starting on July 17th. Shuttle times are 10:30am and 2pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Woodman to Earl Haig and from Earl Haig to Woodman at 1:30pm and 5pm on the same days.
Part of the renovation of Woodman includes a new park featuring accessible rubberized surfacing, a wheelchair accessible swing, a two bay accessible swing, and a mix of play equipment for children of all abilities.
The City has also decided to fund a new Woodman Community Garden. The garden will have 52 raised gardens, a gazebo, a large greenhouse, fruit bushes and trees, 6 accessible garden beds, and pollinator gardens. There will also be an asphalt path and road access for ease of material deliveries.
