Driver Asleep in Roadway | Colborne Street East
On Monday May 13, 2019 at approximately 5:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received 9-1-1 call about a suspicious vehicle on Echo Villa Ave and Colborne Street East. A vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road and a male appeared to be sleeping in the driver seat. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle and the male driver. Officers observed the male driver who appeared to be sleeping at the wheel with the vehicle still in drive. Officers observed a baggie containing suspected cocaine with a straw in it in the driver’s lap. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Officer’s while dealing with the male observed signs of impairment. The driver was given a demand for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.
As a result of the investigation a 42-year-old Gravenhurst male is charged with Operation While Impaired – Drug under the Criminal Code. He is also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is further charged with a number of offences under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. His license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded.
