Local Brant Authors | Book Launch
Publisher’s Note: This is a story created by one of our Citizen Journalists celebrating a passion she wants to share 4BRANT. We welcome Amanda Morrison.
Amanda Morrison is a local author from Brantford. An active member of the Brantford Writer’s Circle, she enjoys spreading her love of the written word through her own work or just simply sharing her favourite books.
A little over 30 years ago, a small group of writers in the Brant County area created the
Brantford Writers’ Circle; a group of like-minded individuals, with a common goal to celebrate
written word, increase their learning, and support each other’s endeavours.
The Brantford Writers’ Circle (BWC) has produced anthologies and helped its members to move
to the next stage of their efforts, including having their work published through various means,
and available for purchase through bookstores, museums and online. The group also holds
events open to the public, that offer a chance to hear from great local artists, learning, as well as
an introduction the BWC members.
On the heels of their recently released book titled “Shamus”, the BWC most recently held a
poetry workshop at the Brantford Public Library. Guests of the Poetry Workshop heard from
great poets such as Brantford’s Poet Laureate, John B. Lee, as well as Inali Barger, Director of
the London Poetry Slam, with breakout sessions that included topics such as measuring poetry,
metaphors and public speaking. The group plans to host a similar workshop again in the future.
The next event for the Brantford Writers’ Circle is their annual Book Launch party. This annual
event celebrates the launch this year’s books by its members, as well as other local authors.
The authors themselves will be at the event, with signed copies of their books available for
purchase. Each author will say a few words about their work with a short reading of their book
newest book. This event is being held at the Thorpe’s Brothers Carriage House at 96 West St,
on Monday, December 3rd from 7 pm to 9 pm.
